Aside from the armored and high-security S-Guard of the Mercedes S-Class, there are two other special editions under the S-Class family. The two models are the Saks-edition and the hybrid edition. The Saks-edition of the S-Class was promoted by the upscale department store, Saks Fifth Avenue in 2005. The department store offered 20 special edition S-600 sedans that’s for sale under their 2005 Christmas catalog. The cars are priced $145,000.00 and was sold in November 22, 2005 in under seven minutes. The cars were finished in mocha black exterior with an almond beige interior and comes with nearly every option standard.
Plans for the S400, a W221 mild hybrid model was first made public in 2007. This hybrid deatures 275 hp V6 engine that is mated to a 20hp electric motor. This model is scheduled to be released in 2009. By early 2008, Mercedes-Benz announced that the S400 will incorporate a lithium-ion battery, a first for mainstream automobile.
