The Problem with DUI

DUI or driving under the influence is a serious matter, that a number of regulations are set in place in order to control this from happening. But then no matter how many laws the institutions set up, the number of DUI arrests continue to rise. Prominent personalities like the members of the entertainment world are the usual suspects when it comes to DUI arrests. Starlets have been charged with this, served a sentence or a probation or fined a little and after that, they are back to their old ways. But what is DUI and needs to be highly regulated? This is defined as operating a vehicle after having consumed an alcohol or drugs to a degree that the mental and the motor skills are impaired, which in turn can lead to accidents on and off the roads. Right now, all 50 states have two statutory offenses. The first one is the traditional offense called driving under the influence of alcohol- that’s DUI, driving while intoxicated DWI or operating while impaired OWI. The second is the more recent illegal per se offense of driving with blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent. It is also a criminal offense in all states to drive a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or DUID or under the influence of both. These are but general laws and there are specific regulations that address these things. In fact, some states may have additional rules in place that will address these kinds of issues on the road. What matters most is the fact that driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a combination of these two is a serious threat to safety of every one on the road. That is why government has worked double time to set laws and regulations in place. For a better understanding of drunk driving laws, then this site is a big help.
