As ‘wood-en’ as it gets.

I’m talking about a super ‘wooden car’. Yes. A car crafted primarily from wood. Is this true? Or just one of those praise/press releases of questionable source? Let’s check it together and lets see if indeed this is possible.

This super wooden car is actually a product of student designer Joe Harmon and another fellow North Carolina State University undergraduate student. Their design is geared towards creating the world’s first wooden supercar.

We aren’t trying to sell anything, we aren’t trying to save the world, and we aren’t advocating that everyone should drive a wooden car. This project is an scholastic endeavour in which we are simply trying to explore materials, learn, teach, share ideas and stimulate creativity, Harmon said.

And explore they did. Based on the design of the car, the car is expected to deliver 600 bhp coming from 4.6 liter and V8 petrol engine. This is then linked to a 6 speed manual gearbox, that is crafted mainly from wood. And this ’supposed’ wooden car can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds!

This car designed by Harmon is expected to reach speeds of up to 240 miles per hour. This ‘wooden’ machine is 15-foot-long and weighs 2,500 pounds less that the average Porsche 911 GT3.
