The Alfa Romeo brand is set to return to US market by end of 2009. The symbolic return of the brand to US soil is headed by the 8C Competizione. This 450 horsepower sports car was first introduced in the European market in September 2007. Only 500 8C Competizione will be produced and 90 of these are ear-marked for the US market. The brand first entered the American market in the late 1950s with its Guilletta and the Spider convertibles. The last vehicle that was offered by the Alfa Romeo before leaving the American market was the 154 sport sedan in 1995.
The Competizione was initially a concept car that was presented at the FRnakfurt show in 2003 and this concept was intended to be an expensive and a limited edition sports car that would signal the re-emergence of the Alfa Romeo brand. Featured under the hood of the Competizione is a version of the Maserati’s V-8. This sports car is made from carbon fiber.
